Meade County Fair and 4-H Achievement Days underway

STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade County Fair and 4-H Achievement Days promises two full days of fun, and it all kicked off today.

From watermelon eating and bubble gum blowing contests to mutton busting and a calf scramble, Friday’s events also include a free barbeque sponsored by the Sturgis Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee.

4-H advisor Jenny Voight says activities are taking place at the West Gym at the high school and at the fairgrounds.

Northern Hills Ag Fest Activities will be held Friday evening at the arena, with mutton bustin, calf scramble, and adult and teen dress-a-sheep contest.

Saturday will be the day for area youth to show their livestock and animals. Judging and open class begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs through the day.

Saturday begins with the Brandon Delzer Legacy 5K Run/Walk, with registration at 7:00 a.m.
