Meade County records first COVID-19 related death

PIERRE, S.D. – The Department of Health reported 30 new COVID-19 cases Friday and an additional death, which was reported as a Meade County resident.

The health department says the death was a resident in the 50-59 age range. The resident is the 9th person in the 50-59 age range to die and the 65th death in the state related to COVID-19.

There were no new cases reported in Meade County today, so their cumulative total remains at 24 with 15 active cases.

Pennington County reported 9 new cases today, sending their cumulative total to 275 with 183 active cases. Lawrence County reported one new case today, sending their cumulative total to 12 with 3 active cases. And, Oglala Lakota County also had an additional case today, sending their cumulative total to 34 with 25 active cases.

Other county case numbers today were 4 in Davison, 3 in Lincoln, 2 each in Beadle, Minnehaha and Todd; and one each in Brown, Buffalo, Clay, Hand, Hanson and Yankton counties.

The number of active cases statewide is up 13 today to 1,033; but the total number of people in the hospital is down 3 to 83.
