STURGIS, S.D. – Meade Highway Superintendent Troy Eastman said throughout the county there are people, vehicles and equipment stuck and or blocking roads. He said it is a very serious situation for rescue and highway personnel.
Eastman says an emergency request has also been received from Ellsworth Air Force Base asking for immediate assistance with a plowing issue. Eastman said he got with Pennington County personnel because they are closer. Pennington was headed toward 224th, but it will take a couple of hours for Meade staff to get reach the location.
“And,” Eastman said, “The road will immediately blow shut behind us.”
Currently the county is making sure its personnel are safe and are pulling back until conditions improve or when rescue is needed.
Eastman says “please do not make this situation any worse by trying to drive on any roads.”
