Meade County Sheriff’s Office, Sturgis Police send out latest Rally Stats

STURGIS, S.D. – The sun shone on the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally after a full day of rain and drizzle on Saturday and it showed in the latest stats from the Sturgis Police Department.

Police report handing out 27 illegal parking citations Sunday, sending the year to date total to 53. That is still down from last year’s 97 at this time.

Police reported 7 D-U-I’s, 11 misdemeanor drug arrests and 2 felony drug arrests. D-U-I arrests right in line with last year while drug arrests are up.

Police also had 3 fight calls on Sunday, 2 injury and 2 non-injury accidents and 4 stop sign or stop light violations.

From the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, there were 119 calls for service, 6 D-U-I arrests, and 3 drug arrests.

Meade County Sheriff Pat West says his team helped with 3 injury accidents and in all, there were over 40 people booked into the Meade County jail during Sunday’s reporting period.

The Sheriff’s Office also shared the following on their social media channels Monday:

911 Operator: “We will send a deputy”
Caller: Please hurry!!!

Meade County Deputy: Not an attack at the campground… The “gang” was security removing several out of control people.
