PIERRE, S.D. – Both Meade and Pennington Counties reported an additional COVID-19 case in the Monday report released by the South Dakota Department of Health.
The total number of new cases statewide was 97 Monday with the number of active cases increasing to 1,393.
Pennington County now has 16 active cases and Meade County has 3. State epidemiologist Dr. Joshua Clayton talks about the 8 cases that have been reported in Pennington County over the weekend.
“The total number of increases in Pennington County have not been associated with any specific event or business. It reflects some increased testing and increased cases within the community as a whole.”
Other cases today were 84 in Minnehaha, 7 in Brown, 3 in Lincoln and one in Todd. Health officials say 76 of the cases in Brown County involve employees at the DemKota Beef Plant.
It was also noted today by Dr. Clayton that since Lawrence County has not had an active case or new positive test for 28 days, it has been moved out of minimal to moderate spread to no community spread.
Recoveries increased by 40 to a total of 2,187, up from Sunday’s 2,147.
Current hospitalizations are at 78, up one from Sunday. Deaths remained at 34.
Negative tests are 20,964, up from Sunday. There were a total of 684 new negative tests reported Monday. So far, Pennington County has 1,130 negative tests, Meade County has 345, Lawrence County has 229 and Butte County has 81.
