Michael Leon Austin

Michael Leon Austin

Michael Leon Austin, a cherished soul known for his humor, handiness, and wisdom, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on December 30, 2024, at his home in Rapid City, South Dakota, just one day after celebrating his 60th birthday. Born in Crossett, Arkansas on December 29, 1964, Michael’s journey was one of love, laughter, and the simple joys of life.

Michael grew up in the warm community of Crossett, where he graduated from Crossett High School. He had a passion for rock and roll music that would echo through the years of his life, providing a soundtrack to the many moments and memories he created with his family and friends. Michael was a man who could find happiness in the everyday, his hands often busy with the love of working on vehicles, a skill that he took great pride in. He is survived by his significant other, Lisa Prince, who stood by his side as a beacon of love and support. Together, they shared countless cherished moments. Michael’s legacy continues through his children: Britney Austin, Rebecca (Ray) Patterson, Katelyn (Ziggy) Arguello, Brook Simonson, and Michael Ryan Austin, who will forever hold onto the lessons and laughter their father imparted to them. His sisters, Claudia Freeman and Crystal Mills, his brothers, Jimmy and Adrian Austin, and his numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews will remember Michael as a pillar of strength and joy within their family. Michael was a man who believed in the value of wisdom and wit.

His ability to find the humor in life’s challenges was a gift that he shared generously, often reminding those around him that “A day without laughter is a day wasted,” a sentiment famously expressed by Charlie Chaplin. This philosophy was evident in the way Michael lived his life, always ready with a joke, a smile, and a helping hand. His interests went beyond his love for music and mechanics. Michael cherished spending quality time with his family, whether it was a spontaneous road trip with his rock and roll tunes playing in the background or a quiet evening at home surrounded by the laughter and stories of his loved ones. He taught his children the importance of living fully and loving deeply, always encouraging them to pursue their passions with the same vigor he did his own.

Through his life, Michael touched the hearts of many. He was the kind of person who left a lasting impression, not through grand gestures, but through the genuine kindness and wisdom he offered in everyday interactions. His presence was a comfort, and his words often provided guidance to those he encountered. As we bid farewell to Michael Leon Austin, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey marked by the love he gave and the love he received. He was a simple man, but his impact on the world was anything but. Michael’s story is not one of sorrow, but a celebration of a life that, in its simplicity, was profoundly beautiful. We will carry his memory with us, finding comfort in the melodies of his favorite rock and roll songs, the purr of a well-tuned engine, and the laughter that he so easily evoked. In honoring Michael’s life, we acknowledge the beauty of a life that, while ordinary in its pursuits, was extraordinary in its effect. Michael’s life reminds us all to cherish the simple moments, to find joy in the everyday, and to live with a heart full of love and hands willing to work. His passing is not an end, but a continuation of his spirit through the lives of those he loved and who loved him in return. Michael Leon Austin, a man of laughter and love, will be dearly missed, but his legacy will forever be a part of us.

Upon his request, cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date.
