STURGIS, SD – The Mitchell Kernels, #3 in the latest AA boys basketball poll, showed why they are one of the top teams in South Dakota with a 59-29 beating of the Sturgis Scoopers on Friday night at West Gym.
Kernel senior standout Caden Hinker hammered home two dunks in the first half, scoring 9 points as Mitchell led 33-12 at the break.
Mitchell outscored Sturgis 17-9 in the third quarter behind Dylan Soulek’s 11 points. Head coach Ryker Kreutzfeldt brought in his reserves to hold the lead in the fourth quarter as the Kernels cruised to the victory.
Mitchell (8-2) was led by Soulek with 17 points. Hinker finished with 12 points and five boards. Owen Cass dropped in 11 points for Sturgis (1-10).
The Scoopers host Huron Saturday afternoon at 1:30 as Mitchell travels to Spearfish to take on the Spartans.
