STURGIS, SD – The Mitchell Kernels girls and boys basketball teams picked up wins over the Sturgis Scoopers in different locations on Friday night.
The Scooper boys traveled to Mitchell and played a tight first quarter, trailing the Kernels 21-15 headed into the second.  The Kernels got hot and Sturgis couldn’t buy a bucket throughout the remainder of the game and Mitchell ran away with a 57-31 win.
In the girls contest, Mitchell led 31–15 at halftime and cruised to a 55–30 victory at West Gym in Sturgis.
The Scooper boys are in action Saturday at Huron, and the Sturgis girls host the Huron Tigers at West Gymnasium.
