MITCHELL, SD – A new chapter begins at Mitchell Livestock Marketing as a couple from Cherokee, Oklahoma assumes ownership of the livestock auction market.
Announcing the sale are former owners Don Stang and Marion Rus. They have owned the barn for 13 years. Plans are for the two to assist with the transition process for the first year.
Jarrid and Patrice Herrmann, along with partners Brad and Abby Lewis purchased the South Dakota market. They also own the Cherokee Sales Company barn in Oklahoma. According to Herrmann, the quality of northern cattle was a big factor in the decision to add to their livestock marketing business.
A native of Dodge City, Kansas, Hermann grew up in production agriculture, including the feedyard business. He completed his education at Kansas State University with an agriculture engineering degree and began his career in Bismarck, ND. Patrice grew up on her family’s grain farm in Scandia, KS, and is also a Kansas State University alum with a degree in ag business. She began her career in Marion, SD, working in grain merchandising.
The two have one daughter, Charlee Ella, who will be three in September. Their family would not be complete without the mention of their silver lab, Rogue
Wife, Patrice, is also a Kansas State University alum with a degree in ag business.
According to Herrmann, when the opportunity to purchase the Cherokee Sales Company came up in 2017, he jumped at it, wanting to get back into more hands-on agriculture. He was looking for another livestock markets in the Northern Plains when Mitchell Livestock Marketing became available. He says the abundance of farmer/feeders in the area is an added advantage. He also added that the opportunities that two geographically-opposite locations (and the related differences in weather) is a plus for buyers and sellers in both locations.
The Hermann’s say they are looking forward to meeting producers and community members and being a part of Mitchell and the surrounding area.
