Mitchell Ward Conklin

Mitchell Ward Conklin

Mitchell Ward Conklin, known for lighting up the room with his quick wit and infectious laughter, embarked on his final journey on December 29, 2024. Born on September 20, 1985, in Idaho, Oregon, Mitchell’s zest for life never waned throughout his 39 years. As a man who always saw the glass as half full—preferably with something caffeinated—Mitchell left us as he lived, embracing the natural cycle of life in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Mitchell was the beloved ringmaster of his personal circus, featuring his adoring children, Melody and Max Conklin, and his devoted partner, Alicia Thompson, who were his greatest fans and the heart of his comedic universe. His mother, Rene’ Lindsay, survives him, forever proud of the man he became. While his father, Roger Conklin, preceded him in death, their shared sense of humor lives on as a family legacy. After finishing high school, where he was voted “Most Likely to End Up on a Comedy Tour,” Mitchell dabbled in higher education, collecting knowledge and laughs in equal measure. He eventually found his stage behind the cash register at the Flying J Truck Stop in Rapid City, where he didn’t just punch in numbers but also punched in punchlines, brightening the days of travelers and truckers alike.

A man of simple pleasures, Mitchell was the king of his couch when it came to indulging in comedy shows, chuckling along with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld and Kevin Hart. His love for Rock and Roll was no secret—bands like Five Finger Death Punch fueled his air guitar performances, much to the amusement (and occasional embarrassment) of his children.

The Black Hills of South Dakota were his backyard, where he’d often retreat for a dose of nature and a break from his adoring public.

He enjoyed listening to Joe Rogan and Bert Krieser podcasts, they were a staple in his daily routine, providing a soundtrack of stories and laughs that he’d eagerly share with anyone within earshot. It was this blend of humor and intelligence that made Mitchell not just funny, but genuinely insightful. His ability to find the punchline in the mundanity of life made every moment with him an episode worth tuning in for. Mitchell was a man who could find the funny in the ordinary, and in his honor, we remember the words of the great Robin Williams: “You’re only given a little spark of madness. You mustn’t lose it.” Mitchell not only kept his spark but turned it into a roaring fire of joy and laughter, warming the hearts of those around him.

To know Mitchell was to love him, and to hear him laugh was to feel the world lighten a little. He was a loving father, an endearing partner, and a friend who could always be counted on for a joke or a kind word. His intelligence shone through his humor, making his wit as sharp as it was delightful.

As we bid farewell to Mitchell Ward Conklin, we remember a man who lived as we all should—with laughter, love, and a touch of rock ‘n’ roll. He danced through life on a stage of his own making, and though the final curtain has fallen, the encore of his memory will play on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Mitchell, and may your jokes continue to echo in the laughter of your loved ones.
