STURGIS, S.D. – There was a lower amount of new COVID-19 cases Monday, but the state still set another record high for active cases.
In its daily report, health officials reported 181 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest daily number in weeks. However, only 668 new tests were conducted for the latest 24 hour reporting period. Also, the new cases sent the active caseload in the state to 4,274 – up from Sunday’s 4,268.
The state’s number of hospitalizations also rose again today. The state reports 241 people hospitalized with COVID-19; up 9 from Sunday.
There were no new deaths reported, keeping the state’s death toll at 248.
Among new cases in the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 16, Meade County reported 5, Lawrence County had 9 and Butte County also reported 5.
Pennington County has 2,623 total cases with 442 remaining active. Meade County’s total increased to 632 with 126 active and Lawrence County has a cumulative total of 475 with 100 active cases. Butte County’s total reached 132 Monday with 41 remaining active.
Other new cases around West River include 3 in Todd, 2 each in Gregory and Mellette and one each in Oglala Lakota, Lyman and Jones counties.
The total number of new cases west of the river today was 45.
