Monday marks ten years since two officers were shot and killed in the line of duty

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Monday marked ten years since three Rapid City police officers were shot -two of them fatally.

A routine stop off East Anamosa Street turned deadly in 2011 when a man pulled out a gun and opened fire, striking the three Rapid City officers.

Officer Ryan McCandless and Nick Armstrong died and Officer Tim Doyle was injured but recovered and remains on the Rapid City force to this day.

Chief Don Hedrick remembers the two men as officers who truly enjoyed law enforcement. He says it’s a joy that has sparked good in the wake of their sacrifice.
