Monday’s COVID-19 report; no new deaths reported for first time since September

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 401 new cases of COVID-19 in their Monday report with 91 of those listed under the probable category.

Active cases are up 124 from Friday’s report to 5,961. The number of people hospitalized remained relatively stable at 186.

For the first time since late September, no new deaths were reported today.

Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County saw 72 total new cases with 19 of those considered probable.

Lawrence County had one probable cases and 16 confirmed cases, and Meade County reported 11 new confirmed cases.

Elsewhere, Butte County and Custer County each reported 5 new cases, Fall River County had 8 and Oglala Lakota County tallied 3.

As of Monday, 68% of the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 58.43% have completed the vaccination series.

In this week’s COVID-19 school report, Meade 46-1 School District reports 7 cases among the elementary schools, 7 among the middle schools, 3 among the high school and just 1 affecting a district employee. All Meade 46-1 schools remain in the green phase with no school today due to teacher in-service.

Within the Rapid City Area School District, there are 24 active cases among staff and 106 cases among students. The highest amount of cases are being reported within Rapid City Central high school with 25.
