Monday’s COVID-19 Update – 528 new cases, active cases rise to 7,226, four new deaths

PIERRE, S.D. – Monday’s COVID-19 report from the South Dakota Health Department showed 528 new cases with 121 of those listed under the probable category.

Active cases of the virus statewide increased by 194 to 7,226.

The number of people hospitalized dropped by 6 from 203 to 197, but four new deaths were reported. All four deaths were in the Black Hills area – two men and two women out of Pennington, Meade, Lawrence and Fall River counties. The state’s total number of COVID-19 related deaths is now 2,088.

The Black Hills region continues to lead the state with the most hospitalizations. Monument Health reports 95 COVID-19 patients with 34 in the I.C.U. and 26 on ventilators.

Across the Black Hills, Pennington County reported 130 total new cases, of which, 39 were considered as probable.

Lawrence County added 28 new, confirmed cases, and Meade County had 35 confirmed and 3 probable new cases.

Butte County reported 20 new cases Monday.

Elsewhere, there were 7 new cases in Custer, 5 in Fall River, 4 in Oglala Lakota and one in Harding County.

As of Monday, 62.91% of the population 12-year-olds and above has received at least one dose while 57.18% have completed the vaccination series.
