Motorcycle vs passenger car crash in Rapid City Friday results in fatality

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A crash between a motorcycle and a passenger car has resulted in the death of the motorcycle rider, according to Rapid City Police.

RCPD says the accident happened around 2:30 Friday afternoon in the 2600 block of West Main Street.

Police say preliminary information indicates a motorcyclist was traveling westbound on West Main Street when it struck a passenger vehicle attempting to turn left out of a parking lot.

The rider was taken to Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, where he died as a result of his injuries.

The man was identified Monday as 59-year-old Charles Peterson of Rapid City.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was also taken to the hospital for treatment of what RCPD says were non-life-threatening injuries.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the RCPD’s Critical Accident Reconstruction Team.
