KEYSTONE, S.D. – The faces of presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln on Mount Rushmore get covered with black blindfolds that collectively read “The Truth Lies” in a teaser video for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, a new game announced Thursday by publisher Activision.
A video called “wake up (rushmore) #thetruthlies” opens with a profile shot of George Washington’s face at night, followed by a group of people running through a wooded area and climbing rocky cliffs. The shot then cuts to daytime, where the presidents have been blindfolded, with the cloths reading “THE TRUTH LIES,” alongside an orange emblem of a three-headed dog placed over Lincoln’s face.
This year’s edition of Call of Duty returns to the globe-trotting Black Ops franchise for the first time since 2020’s Black Ops: Cold War.
Activision Senior Vice President & Head of Marketing Tyler Bahl said his team developed the video to fit the themes of espionage and government conspiracy explored in Black Ops games and he’s been happy with the promotion’s success.
”We were out in Rapid City and we went up to Rushmore,” Bahl said. “We did everything on the up and up. We worked with the parks department to get a license and we actually worked with some rock climbers to help stage the asset.”
How relevant Mount Rushmore National Memorial will be in the game’s main plot, if at all, is yet to be seen. The Black Ops series has traditionally pursued alternate history versions of real historical events, including issues like the assassination of John F. Kennedy or the Cold War. Black Ops 6 is set during the Gulf War.
No release date, information on different editions of the game or pricing has been released yet for what the publisher is calling a “dark new chapter” in the franchise.
The game is developed by Treyarch Studios and Raven Software.
