UNDATED – Several Black Hills communities held municipal elections on Tuesday.
In Custer, a heavily debated proposed nuisance ordinance was on the ballot for theĀ county. Voters decided by a 801 to 609 vote to declare the discharge of any treated wastewater from the city’s wastewater treatment plant into French Creek or its tributaries within Custer County a nuisance.
In municipal races in Custer, Bob Brown remains Mayor of Custer after defeating Gary Carr.
For the Custer City Council, Peg Ryan will serve another two year term with a victory over Faith Lewis in Ward 3.
In Hill City, there were two races for Alderman – one in Ward 1, the other in Ward 2. Carl Doaty, Jr. wins the Ward 1 race while challenger Lori Miner wins the Ward 2 race over incumbent Gary Auch.
In Hermosa, voters approved allowing chickens inside city limits for the purpose of egg production by a 94-54 vote. Voters also approved term limits for town board members on a 92-59 vote.
For Hermosa Board of Trustees, Donna Ferguson wins the seat. In a race for a pair of three-year-terms, winners were Jerry Styles and Vicki Henrichsen.
