FAITH, S.D. – “The Biggest Party on the Prairie” is in full swing.
For 113 years, the Faith Stock Show & Rodeo that runs through August 13th, has been bringing fun and fellowship to friends, neighbors and visitors.
“No other rodeo or gathering has happened every year in South Dakota Faith always has. Even during the Depression, we always had the stock show and rodeo,” observes event secretary and volunteer, Gnene Fordyce.
For families and kids, Thurs., Aug. 10 is fun filled day at the Faith Stock Show. Youngsters can enjoy Kids’ Day Horse events as well as bicycle activities and the mutton busting at 5:00p.m., followed by a crowd favorite, the Ranch Rodeo at 6pm.
On Fri., Aug. 11, the Pen of Three Livestock Show begins at 8a.m. For golfing enthusiasts, a Golf Scramble gets underway at 8:30a.m. Exhibits are open to public beginning at 10a.m. Then it’s the first SDRA & NRCA Rodeo performance getting underway at 6:30p.m. The performance features a calf scramble, wild pony races, pony bareback riding, and ranch bronc riding. The Faith Stock Show & Rodeo Queen will also be crowned at this performance.
“We have a carnival this year so that’s exciting. There is always good rodeo and horse races at Faith,” said Fordyce.
Rodeo slack, another SDRA & NRCA Rodeo performance, and calf scramble are all on Sat., Aug. 12. Back this year are the wildly popular Indian Relay Races with the first race on Saturday.
The two-day parade at the Faith Stock Show & Rodeo is well known throughout the area and packs in thousands. Set for Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13 at 10a.m. (MT) both days, this year’s Parade Marshalls are Jim and Iverne Holloway.
