Name released in crash that killed an Iowa motorcyclist

HARTFORD, S.D.  – A motorcyclist from Iowa died Friday evening in a two-vehicle crash on I-90 near Hartford.

The crash happened at 5:52 p.m.

The Department of Public Safety states that the driver of a 2017 Harley Davidson Heritage — 67-year-old David L. Rowe from Williamsburg, Iowa — was traveling east on I-90 in a split-lane construction zone.

Rowe lost control and crossed the center line, colliding head-on into a Ford F350 traveling in the westbound lane.

Rowe sustained fatal injuries during the crash. Helmet use is under investigation.

The driver of the Ford F350 — 61-year-old Jeffrey Alphonse Bartscher of Sioux Falls — sustained minor injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
