Names released in Bennett County fatal crash

MARTIN, S.D. — A Batesland, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash west of Martin.

Preliminary information indicates that a 2009 Smart Fortwo was westbound on U.S. Highway 18 when it crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound 2018 Freightliner semi truck.

William Stover, the 69-year-old driver of the Smart Fortwo, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck driver was 56-year-old William Muhlstadt of St. Petersburg, FL. He was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation.
