Names Released In Potter County Fatal Crash

GETTYSURG, S.D. – A Rapid City, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died late Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash west of Gettysburg.

A 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was westbound on U.S. Highway 212 when the driver lost control as the vehicle entered a right-turning curve. The vehicle cross the centerline and collided with an eastbound 2013 Ford F350 pickup.

Joseph Skye, the 35-year-old passenger in the Monte Carlo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver, 24-year-old Mariah LeBeau of Aberdeen, S.D., sustained life-threatening injuries. She was transported via ambulance to the Gettysburg hospital and airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Calen Decker of Gettysburg was the 19-year-old male driver of the pickup. He was wearing a seat belt.

Charges are pending against both drivers.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
