PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials reported 501 new COVID-19 cases in their Tuesday report.
The new caseload is up from yesterday, but the active cases of the virus continued to fall – down 785 today to 5,738.
However, the number of hospitalizations increased for the second day in a row – up 15 today to 303.
No new deaths were reported, keeping the state’s death toll at 1,446. There have been 500 deaths reported in December.
Across West River counties, there were 177 new cases Tuesday.
Pennington County accounted for 81 of those, sending the county total over 11,000 to 11,029. Of those, 761 remain active.
Lawrence County had the second-most new cases with 27 and Meade County reported 17.
Elsewhere across West River, new case numbers included 9 each in Butte and Dewey, 7 in Oglala Lakota, 5 each in Fall River and Todd, 4 in Lyman, 3 each in Stanley and Haakon, 2 each in Custer, Perkins and Bennett and one in Ziebach.
In Tuesday’s vaccination update, there have been a total of 15,830 doses administered. Of those, 9,875 are the Pfizer vaccine and 5,955 are the Moderna Vaccine.
