New cases total 971 in weekly COVID-19 report

PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health released their weekly COVID-19 update today.

New cases totaled 971 with active cases rising by 234 over last week to 2,780 this week.

Five new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,936. Of the new deaths, one was out of Pennington County and another was out of Butte County.

Pennington County had the most new cases this week with 233 being reported. That is up eleven over last week.

Lawrence County had 41 new cases while Meade County reported 47. Meade County saw an increase in cases over the past week and Lawrence County reported eight fewer.

Elsewhere across the Black Hills area, Custer and Fall River County each reported 21 new cases, Butte County added 19 and there were nine new cases reported out of Oglala Lakota County.
