New COVID-19 cases in Tuesday report total 739, three new deaths, hospitalizations climb

PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials reported 739 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday with 159 of those listed as probable. Today’s update includes numbers from Saturday and Sunday.

The number of active cases statewide dropped today by 291 to 7,636 and the number of hospitalizations rose dramatically from Monday to 236. Monument Health reports 105 COVID-19 related hospitalizations with 29 in the I.C.U. and 24 on ventilators.

Three new deaths were also reported. One of the new deaths was out of Pennington County, where there have been 225 COVID-19 related deaths since the pandemic began. The new deaths send the state’s death toll since the pandemic began to 2,108.

New cases across the Black Hills region include 156 out of Pennington County, where 23 of those were considered as probable cases.

Meade County added 32 new cases Tuesday and Lawrence County reported 26. Three of the 32 in Meade County were listed as probable.

Butte County showed 13 new cases, Custer County had 17, Fall River County reported 9, Oglala Lakota County added 7 and Harding County had one new case and one probable new case.
