PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota saw its highest daily number of new COVID-19 cases ever Thursday as 2,019 were reported.
Active cases increased over 12-hundred, hitting 18,722 and hospitalizations went back up to 551. Available I.C.U. beds across the Black Hills healthcare system dropped to 7.8-percent Thursday as hospitals grapple with the possibility of running out of space.
There were no new deaths reported today, keeping the state’s death toll at 567.
Across West River, there were 663 new cases with Pennington County reporting a new daily high of 344. The total in Pennington rose to 6,519 and 2,078 cases remain active as of today.
Lawrence County saw 60 new cases reported Thursday, sending the cumulative total to 1,514 with 548 cases still active.
In Meade County, there were 44 new COVID-19 cases reported, giving the county a total of 1,315 with 331 still active.
Butte County added another 22 new cases, sending their total to 557 with 202 remaining active.
Other new cases across West River include 36 in Dewey, 30 in Oglala Lakota, 28 in Todd, 20 in Tripp, 15 in Corson, 14 in Custer, 10 in Fall River, 8 each in Ziebach and Lyman, 7 in Gregory, 4 each in Bennett and Mellette, 3 in Stanley, 2 each in Harding and Jackson and one each in Perkins and Jones counties.
