New COVID-19 cases total 718, eight new deaths reported in Tuesday report

PIERRE, S.D. – State health officials listed 718 new cases of COVID-19 in their Tuesday report with 158 of those considered as probable. Today’s update includes numbers from Saturday and Sunday.

Active cases have dropped to 5,392, but the number of hospitalizations saw an increase to 193.

Eight new deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,228. Across West River, Butte, Fall River, Harding and Pennington County all reported a death.

Pennington County reported 153 cases with 27 of those considered as probable.

Meade County had the next highest amount of new cases with 28 and Lawrence County added 26.

Butte County reported 18 new cases Tuesday.

Elsewhere, Oglala Lakota County had 9, Custer listed 8 and Fall River County had 7 new cases.
