PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Health reported 109 new, confirmed cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, along with 9 considered probable.
One new death was reported, sending the state’s death toll to 1,779 since the pandemic began. The new death was listed out of Lawrence County, where there have now been 42 related to COVID-19.
Active cases dropped by 228 Tuesday to 2,600. The number of people hospitalized because of the virus increased by 5 to 131.
Across the Black Hills area, there were 17 confirmed cases with Pennington County accounting for the most with 14. Two cases were listed as probable in Pennington County.
Both Lawrence and Meade counties reported one new, confirmed cases and one probable case.
Butte County also reported a probable case and Custer County had one new, confirmed case.
There were 524 new persons tested reported on Tuesday. Tuesday’s new person tested positivity rate is 22.1%.
