RAPID CITY, S.D. – New cases of COVID-19 within the Rapid City Area School system have nearly quadrupled over the past week.
On Friday, RCAS reported it had 112 total cases among students and staff. By Tuesday, the district had 166.
There are currently no mask mandates in effect within the RCAS system.
Meanwhile, the Meade 46-1 School District opened school on Monday, and Superintendent Don Kirkegaard says they remain in Level Green – which means the COVID-19 rate within the district is less than one percent.
Kirkegaard says, as of Tuesday morning, there were 29 active cases in the district. All were reported before classes began.
The district’s policy states that masks are optional.
If cases grow greater than one percent, masks become recommended and over three percent, they become required when social distancing isn’t possible.
