New COVID-19 numbers total 158 in Tuesday report

PIERRE, S.D. – South Dakota health officials reported 158 new cases of COVID-19 in their Tuesday report.

Because Monday was a holiday, today’s case numbers reflect results up to the long weekend.

Active cases have dropped to 7,706 while the number of people hospitalized dropped eleven from Friday to 211.

Seven new deaths were part of today’s report, sending the state’s death toll to 2,779. One of the new death’s was out of Pennington County, where the death toll rises to 326.

New cases across the Black Hills area included 29 out of Pennington County, 16 in Meade and 4 in Lawrence County.

Elsewhere, there were 9 in Oglala Lakota, 6 in Butte and one each in Custer and Fall River County.
