MARTIN, S.D. – In high school track and field, New Underwood had a stellar day at the Bennett County Invitational Track and Field Meet Monday as they won 10 events.
Cerington Jones finished first in the girls 400-meter dash as well as the long jump. She also won the high jump and anchored both the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.
Mandie Chambliss placed first in the 800 meters and Portia Wiebers won the 100 hurdles.
For the New Underwood boys, Jordan Wright claimed the 400 and Coy Anderson took first place in 110 hurdles. The Tiger boys also won the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Philip picked up five wins Monday.
Kiarra Moses won both the shot put and the discus throw and the Lady Scotties also placed first in the 4×400 relay and 1600 sprint medley, while Wakely Burns finished first in the 1600 for the Philip boys.
Eden Fanning won both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes for host Bennett County. Tyce Gropper claimed the boys 3200, while the Warrior boys also won the 4×800 relay and the 1600 sprint medley.
Distance runners Cheree Ferguson and Jade Ecoffey claimed two of Red Cloud’s four wins, placing first in the 1600 and 3200, respectively.
They were also members of the Crusaders’ winning 4×800 relay team. Jules Ecoffey won the 800 for the Red Cloud boys.
