DES MOINES, Iowa — Eleven South Dakotans qualified for the short go-round of the Junior High National Finals Rodeo, as reported by 605 Sports.
Newell’s LuKayzee Brink had a run of 10.31 seconds in Saturday’s short go-round of the goat tying finishing fifth in the average with a three-run total of 26.63 seconds. Alpena’s Londyn Mikkelson had the ninth fastest time in the goat tying short-go with a 9.96 second run and ended up 11th in the average, 27.99 seconds.

Boys Goat Tying: McLaughlin’s Peter Maher had the fourth fastest time in his Saturday morning performance with a time of 10.06 seconds. Three South Dakotans reached the goat tying short go with Wessington Springs’ Wyatt Fagerhaug having a run of 12.24 seconds, Maher a 12.28 second effort and Henry’s Ace Lammers having a run of 12.76 seconds. Maher finished fifth in the average (32.51). Fagerhaug was 15th in the average (35.58) and Lammers was 16th (35.68).
A heartbreaker for Eagle Butte’s CeCe Cowan who won her Saturday morning performance in the barrel racing with a time of 15.353 seconds. Cowan tipped over a barrel in the short go-round and had a time of 20.481. She finished 17th in the overall standings with a three-run time of 51.799 seconds. She ended up eighth in the All Around Rookie Cowgirl competition with 230 points.
Ribbon Roping: In Saturday’s short go-round, Orient’s Jacob Lammers and Sturgis’s Dallys Day had the tenth fastest performance with a time of 14.91 seconds. Lammers and Day ended up tenth in the average (34.29). Saint Onge’s Cooper Conry and Alpena’s Mikkenson finished 14th in the average with a two-run time of 14.9 seconds.
Saddle Bronc: Ethan’s Hunter Hohn finished second in the morning performance with a score of 43. Hohn had a no-ride time in the finals and finished 16th in the average with a score of 96.
Tie Down Roping: Miller’s Jack Saienga finished 11th in the competition with a three-run time of 40.93 seconds. Saienga had the tenth fastest time of the short go-round (14.77) seconds. Buffalo’s Revyn Floyd was fifth in the Saturday morning performance with a time of 14.03 seconds.
The South Dakota girls ended up fifth in the overall standings with 2045 points. The South Dakota boys were tenth with a score of 2,650 points.
