Central States Fair opens Friday

RAPID CITY, SD -The Sturgis Rally may be finished, but the summertime fun isn’t quite through yet.

Ron Jeffries, general manager of the Central States Fair, says it’s all coming together for Friday’s Aug. 20 ribbon cutting.

“We kick off Friday with a ribbon cutting at 3p.m.  And Carnival Americana fires up as well.   We’ll have a great run with them on the midway at the Central States Fair,” says Jeffries.

It’s much more than carnival fun though, with rodeo, concerts, and motorsports all on the docket.

“We’ll have everything from the pros to the peewees,” says Jeffries.  “Robert Grabel will bring fantastic supercross racing back. In rodeo action, we’ll have a $101,000 payout, the richest payout in saddle bronc history for any single day event.  It’s the best cowboys and best horses and a ton of fun.”

Jeffries said there are free events to ensure the fair is accessible to everyone in the community.

“We try to make it so everybody can afford to come to the fair.  Come before 3p.m. Monday through Friday, when there is no gate admission. Or, a premiere pass includes cost of admission to the fairgrounds  and gets you into everything. It’s a really good family value.”

Tickets for the fair can be purchased at the ticket booth in Rapid City, or online at centralstatesfair.com
