STURGIS, SD – Small communities can experience big challenges when their locations are in or near a highly popularized location.  Black Hills communities especially fall into that category.

The Environmental Protection Agency Office of Community Revitalization, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA RD), and Housing and Urban Development (HUD) invite communities to join in a Feb. 15 webinar that will address housing in gateway communities.

Gateway communities lie just outside or adjacent to major tourist attractions such as national parks, wilderness areas, or nature resorts. Many of these communities experience multiple housing challenges including – lack of affordable housing, available financing, and rapid population growth. The webinar will highlight federal resources and private sector strategies that help communities leverage their outdoor recreation and tourism venues to address housing solutions and improve economic resilience.

Topics covered:

1. Overview of USDA RD’s funding opportunities and HUD’s federal programs to support housing projects.

2. King City, California will provide unique strategies that meet housing demands in the Central Coast wine region near Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

3. Jackson Land Trust will outline the Public/Private Partnership with U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service in Wyoming.

This webinar will be recorded and a link provided to all registrants.
