Day one of South Dakota State Track and Field Meet in the books

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls is playing host to the 3-day South Dakota State Track and Field Meet.

Day one saw a handful of events take place.

In Class AA, the Sturgis Scoopers brought home sixth place in the boys 4×800 meter relay. Sioux Falls O’Gorman won the event. Spearfish brought home second in the girls 4×800 race with Brandon Valley winning the first place medal.

Rapid City Stevens captured the boys Class AA 1600 sprint medley with O’Gorman winning the girls race.

In Class AA field events completed Thursday, Reese Terwilliger of Pierre won the girls shot put and Gretchen Adamski of Spearfish won the girls pole vault.

In Class A action, the Sioux Falls Christian boys and girls both won the 4×800 meter relay. The Sioux Falls Christian boys and girls also won the 1600 meter relay races.  Mataya Ward of Belle Fourche brought home second in the girls triple jump, which was won by Molli Thornton of West Central.

In Class B, Kadoka’s Gracie Eisenbraun won the girls pole vault and Wall’s Rylan McDonnell captured the boys triple jump. Deubrook Area is off to a strong start as the boys and girls both win the 4×800 meter relay.

In the team standings for boys; O’Gorman leads Class AA, Sioux Falls Christian leads Class A and Menno leads Class B, with Kadoka in third and Philip in fifth. In the girls; Spearfish leads Class AA, Sioux Falls Christian leads Class A and Ipswich leads Class B.

Action at the state track and field meet continues Friday.
