Eleanor K. Szilvasi

Eleanor K. Szilvasi passed away peacefully from this life on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Monument Health Senior Care in Sturgis, SD.  Eleanor was born September 26, 1930, in Fombell, PA, the daughter of the late John and Frances Rozanski.

Eleanor was joined in marriage to Andy, on October 25, 1952, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Wampum, PA. Although she had some jobs as a student and young lady, after her marriage she became a consummate homemaker, mother, and fantastic cook, and baker. You could always count on delicious meals or desserts when visiting. (Her stuffed cabbage was mind-blowing!)  Mom could be pretty silly sometimes and make you laugh at unexpected comments or little jokes. She loved playing “marbles”, (officially Wahoo). She and Dad both became quite competitive and animated while playing. They enjoyed playing every chance they got. (You were subject to ridicule for making what they deemed inappropriate or foolish moves, not defending yourself, and the always present “trust me”! (You know if you’ve played!)

They had 4 children: Diane (Ronnie) Cripps, Youngsville, LA, Cathy (Donny) Barker, Natchitoches, LA, Jeanne (Tim) Pawlowski, Sturgis, SD, and Andrew (Shawn) Szilvasi, Pierre, SD.

She was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren: Terri (Corey) Brungart, Phil (Elizabeth) Cripps, Melissa (Lloyd) Thompson, Brandon (Tej) Barker, Stacy (Jimmy) Zeigler, Tracy (Nick) Ontiveros, Maggie (Casey) Walker, Morgan Szilvasi, Ethan (Erin) Szilvasi; and 17 great- grandchildren: Donovan, Callie, and Benjamin Middleton, Julia Thompson, Zachary, and Jacob Zeigler, Samuel, and Madelyn Ontiveros, Ryan, Katie, and Luke Brungart, Celia, and Noah Cripps, Riley, and Landon Walker, and Olive, and Archer Szilvasi; numerous nieces,  nephews, and cousins that she fondly enjoyed during her life.

In addition to her parents, John and Frances Rozanski, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Andrew F. Szilvasi, and a great-grandson, Alexander Middleton, her siblings, Genevieve Biega, Rose Marie Kreiss, and brothers, John, Carl, and Chester Rozanski.

Mom, you will be greatly missed and always remembered for your kind and generous spirit.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with burial following at 11:30 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
