Marvin was born in New Underwood, SD on November 16, 1935 to Burton and Anna (Felton) Barber. He grew up in the Lakeside community on his parents’ farm. He graduated from New Underwood High School in 1953. On February 22, 1957, he married Lois Moden and they lived at Viewfield, SD where Marvin worked at the Speer dairy farm. In 1960, they bought a farm at Boneita Springs, SD where they raised their family and Marvin spent the rest of his life farming and ranching.
Marvin was a passionate farmer/rancher and caretaker of the land and livestock. In his free time, he enjoyed flying his airplane and hunting deer and antelope. He guided numerous hunters and friends on his land, creating many memories and laughs. He was very proud of his family and loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed visiting with anyone who would lend him their ear. Most will remember him best by his great storytelling, as well as his quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to share news of his family and stories of years gone by.
