Meade County Commission approves 2022 budget

STURGIS, S.D. — The Meade County Commission this month approved their 2022 budget.

The approximately $21.5 million dollar budget is 7.9-percent higher than 2021.

Meade County’s portion of the 2022 tax levy is 4.049, or about $4 for every $1,000 in property valuation. That is down from 4.266 last year. That means the county’s portion of property taxes are likely to decrease.

As part of their final budget, commissioners approved added three correctional officers, a sheriff’s deputy, planning/building inspector and civil engineer.

Currently the county has 113 full-time employees, 10 elected officials, 19 part-time employees, five short-term employees and 10 board members for a total of 157.

The 2022 budget includes a 4.5% cost of living raise and continued step increases for employees.
