Nancy Irene Zimmerman was born on June 29, 1949 to Ray and Irene (Birchett) Zimmerman in Lemmon, SD.  After attending Lemmon schools all 12 years, she graduated from Lemmon High School in 1967.  She attended Flight Attendant School in Kansas City MO and moved back to Lemmon in 1970 and met Terry Skretteberg.  Terry courted and romanced Nancy until she said Yes!  They were married on October 28, 1972 and enjoyed 48 wonderful years together.

Nancy was an awesome hostess, serving family and friends wonderful meals with lively fun-filled conversation. Guests were welcomed and made to feel like one of the family.  She and Terry believed there was always room for more, as many who read this know first-hand.

She was known for her love of people.  Her compassionate heart, her honest and heartfelt advice and her quick wit were some of her most endearing qualities.  In her endeavors to acquaint readers of the Dakota Herald with members of the community, she interviewed many, many people and enjoyed every discussion with them.  Nancy held various jobs throughout the years, but is most noted for her volunteer work including CAVA and Dakota Prairie Helping Hands.

Nancy and Terry loved to travel.  They traveled to 43 different states, stopping to see friends and relatives along the way.  They enjoyed their Caribbean cruises together enjoying meeting new people and making new friends.

Nancy’s love for the Lord showed in all she said and did and she was always ready to share her faith.  She was an active member of New Hope Worship Center and loved her church family.

Keeping Nancy in their fondest memories are her husband Terry of Lemmon, sister Jane Haney of Lemmon, sister-in-law Cheryl Michaels of Crofton NE,  step-mother Kathy Zimmerman of Bakersfield CA, step-brothers Bill Morris of Bison SD and Gary Morris of Orlando FL,  and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Ray Zimmerman, her mother and step-father Irene and Marlin Morris, brother Bill Dowdy, and brother-in-law Royce Michael.

A memorial has been established to Dakota Prairie Helping Hands.
