Pat West wins Meade County Sheriff; Shrake gets Treasurer

STURGIS, S.D. – After more than 30 years, there will soon be a new sheriff in Meade County.

Former D.C.I. agent Pat West edged out long time incumbent Ron Merwin in Tuesday’s Republican Primary Election in the Meade County Sheriff’s race.

West picked up 2,719 votes while Merwin garnered 2,463.

Since there were no other candidates running, West will not have an opponent in November’s general election.

It was just as close for Meade County Treasurer as Robin Shrake finished just ahead of Robin Korth.

Shrake received 2,344 votes while Korth got 2,099.

Shrake is currently the Meade County Treasurer and took over when the previous treasurer left.

Korth is currently the chief deputy for the Meade County Treasurer’s office.

In the race for Meade County Commission, District 1, Gary Deering defeated Glen Haines. Deering had 765  votes while Haines got 614.
