NISLAND, SD –  When counties combine forces, interesting things happen. Few events prove that as well as the Butte/Lawrence County Fair in Nisland running now through Sat., August 6.

The 101 year old event located on historic fairgrounds will allow you to embrace the agricultural spirit with livestock shows sheepdog trials and … chicken roping. Yep, that’s right. Add that to everything from youth rodeo to turtle races and you have all the makings for something for everyone, says Michelle May with the Butte/Lawrence County Extension office.

A sampling of some of the week-long activites are 4-H, FFA and Open livestock exhibits and non-livestock entries, sheep dog trials on Wed, Aug. 3 and pig wrestling; Thurs., Aug. 4 offers a draft horse heritage event, talent and fashion shows, and a free barbeque. The evening offers a ranch rodeo and catch-a-sheep contest. On Fri., Aug. 5, the popular livestock sale and buyer appreciation supper takes place and on Sat., Aug. 6 the always popular youth rodeo gets underway at 9am.
