South Dakota High School State Cross Country Meet held Saturday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The 2021 South Dakota High School State Cross Country Meet was held in Sioux Falls on Saturday, October 23.

Winning the Boys AA race was Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens, who finished in a time of 15:48.64. Keenan Urdiales of Spearfish placed second and Josh Martin of Aberdeen Central was third. Top placing Scooper was Deron Graf, who finished in 13th.

Rapid City Stevens won the team title with Harrisburg second and Aberdeen Central third. Sturgis placed sixth.

Winning the GirlsĀ  AA race was Alea Hardie of Sioux Falls O’Gorman, finishing in a time of 17:31.28. Ali Bainbridge of Sioux Falls Lincoln was second and Libby Castelli of O’Gorman was third. Top placing area athlete was Peyton VanDeest of Spearfish in sixth. Top placing Scooper was Lucy Hamer in 23rd.

Winning the team title was O’Gorman with Lincoln in second and Rapid City Stevens in third. Sturgis placed eighth.

In the Boys Class A race, SawyerĀ  Clarkson of Belle Fourche won the race in a time of 15:27.13. Nick Batchelor of Milbank was second and Daniel Colby of Sioux Falls Christian was third.

Sioux Falls Christian won the team title with Custer placing second. The Wildcats had two runners place in the top ten including Miles Ellman in fifth and Gage Grohs in eighth. Milbank was third and Belle Fourche placed fourth. Hill City finished fifth.

In the Girls Class A race, Ellie Maddox of Sioux Falls Christian won in a time of 18:44.83. Custer’s Ramsey Karim finished in second and Isabelle Bloker of Sioux Valley was third. Kadence Dooley of Custer finished fifth and helped the Wildcats win the team title. Chamberlain came in second, Sioux Falls Christian was third, Red Cloud placed a respectable fourth and Hill City was fifth. The Rangers were paced by Abby Cutler’s tenth place finish.

In Class B, Lane Krautschun of Bison won the race in a time of 16:35.82. Josiah Schroeder of Canistota was second and Pierce Baumberger of Miller was third.

Miller won the team title, placing two runners in the top ten. Northwestern was second and Freeman/Academy placed third. The Philip Scotties came fourth, led by Trey Larson’s 20th place finish.

Winning the Class B Girls race was Ella Boekelheide of Northwestern, who finished in a time of 19:39.44. Autumn Baker of Kimball/White Lake was second and Kaelyn Ulschmid of Arlington was third. Top placing area runner was Presely Terkildsen of Philip in ninth.

Winning the team title was Kimball/White Lake with Potter County second, Aberdeen Christian third and Ipswich fourth.
