State A Wrestling – Round 1 complete as Sturgis advances eight wrestlers

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The first round is complete at the State A Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls. Here is a look at how our area wrestlers did:

At 106 pounds, Korbin Bunch dropped his opening round match to Ryan Tschetter of Rapid City Central. Corbin Zent of Stevens defeated Owen Fischer of Milbank to move into the quarterfinals.

At 113 pounds, Sturgis’ Tegan Zebroski got a pin in :46 seconds on Xavier Donovan of Chamberlain to advance to the quarterfinals. He will be joined by Riley Schmidt of RC Central, who defeated Ian Fleming of Douglas.

At 120 pounds, Dee Daniels of Sturgis won a 2-1 decision over Carter Ractliffe of Harrisburg. John Jeffery of Spearfish also won his opening match of Padraig Fulton of Vermillion. Jack Schoenhard of Stevens defeated Caleb Hodges of Madison to advance to the quarterfinals.

At 126 pounds, Kaden Olson won a hard fought match over Riley Dighton of Belle Fourche with a 14-2 decision. Logan Graf of Stevens joins him in the quarterfinals with a win over Hunter Wilson of Tea Area.

At 132, Kelton Olson of Sturgis defeated Jesse Jost of West Central to advance to the quarterfinals. Caleb Richter of Stevens defeated Austim Eimers of Tea Area to also advance. Korben Harris of Spearfish lost his opening round match to Tristan Spencer of Pierre.

At 138 pounds, Maverick Simons of Sturgis lost to Jacob McCormick of Stevens.

At 145 pounds, Perry Ketelsen of Sturgis lost to Jackson Boonstra. Oakley Blakeman of Spearfish defeated Jude Jarding of West Central to advance. He will face Bryan Roselles of Stevens next, who advanced with a win over Logan O’Connor of Harrisburg.

At 152 pounds, Braden Temple of Sturgis advances to the quarterfinals with a pin in 3:55 of Tucker Vilhauer of Mitchell. He will wrestle Corter Doney of Stevens, who won his opening match over Cordell Rychlik of Aberdeen Central.  Clayton Donovan of Spearfish also won his opening match and advances to the quarterfinals. Cayden Wolfe of Belle Fourche lost his opening match to Justin Zirpel of West Central.

At 160 pounds, Preston Ray of Sturgis lost to Jayden Wiebe of Pierre. Riley Benson of Stevens advances with a win over Sabren Bortnem of Brandon Valley. Payton DeWitt of Douglas lost his opening match to Jax Kettwig of Watertown.

At 170 pounds, Reese Jacobs advances with a pin in 1:11 on Jesse Schneck of Milbank. Gordon Bakke of RC Central advances with a win over Kendall Fick of Mitchell.

At 182, Kelson Dirk of Sturgis dropped his opening match to Ryan Hirschkorn of Harrisburg. Tanner VanScoy of Stevens advances with a win over Riley Kearin of Madison.

At 195, Aiden Werlinger of Sturgis advances with a pin over Cade Bickerdyke of Belle Fourche. Both Jaxon Morrison of Stevens and Kadin Nelson of RC Central dropped their opening matches.

At 220 pounds, Zak Juelfs moves to the quarterfinals with a pin over Adam Maras of West Central. Asher Peil of Spearfish lost to Griffen Schneider of Tea Area. And, Lucas Tonsager of Belle Fourche lost his opening round match to Ayden Viox of Harrisburg.

At 285, Dakrai Osborne of Sturgis got pinned by Zach Brady to fall to the wrestlebacks. Matthew Medina of Spearfish also lost his opening match to Navarro Schunke of Brandon Valley. Colton Lauen of Stevens won his opening match with a pin over Antuan Duan of Sioux Falls Jefferson. Kan Wirkus of RC Central also advances to the quarterfinals.

In the team standings, Pierre is in first with 41.5, Brandon Valley is second with 40, and Rapid City Stevens is third with 35 points. Sturgis is currently fifth with 29.
