State A Wrestling – Sturgis advances two to semifinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The semifinals are set at the State A Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls.

Here’s a look at our area athletes:

At 106 pounds, Corbin Zent of Rapid City Stevens defeated Ryan Tschetter of Rapid City Central to advance to the semi’s. Korbin Bunch of Sturgis, who lost his opening match, won his next wrestleback and remains in competition.

At 113 pounds, Tegan Zebroski of Sturgis got an 8-6 decision win over Tate Huff of AberdeenĀ  Central to advance to the semifinals. Riley Schmidt of Rapid City Stevens is also headed to the semi’s with a win over Orlando Whiting of West Central.

At 120 pounds, Jack Schoenhard defeated Noah Williams of Pierre toĀ  advance to the semifinals. Dee Daniels of Sturgis dropped his quarterfinal match to Maddix Slykhuis of Tea Area and headed to the wrestleback. John Jeffrey of Spearfish also lost his quarterfinal and is headed to the wrestleback.

At 126 pounds, Logan Graf of Rapid City Stevens defeated Dominic Santiago of Chamberlain to advance to the semifinals. Kaden Olson of Sturgis lost his quarterfinal match to Mason Schrempp of Aberdeen Central and heads to the wrestleback.

At 132, Kelton Olson of Sturgis heads to the semfinals with a 9-2 decision over Tristan Spencer of Pierre. Caleb Richter of Rapid City Stevens is also headed to the semi’s with a win over Brock Sparks of Mitchell.

At 138, Jacob McCormick of Stevens lost his quarterfinal and heads to the wrestleback. Maverick Simons of Sturgis, who dropped his opening match, lost his wrestleback.

At 145, Oakley Blakeman of Spearfish advances to the semifinals with a 14-3 decision win over Bryan Roselles of Stevens. Perry Ketelsen, who lost his opening match, won his wrestleback, and is still in competition.

At 152 pounds, CorterĀ  Doney of Rapid City Stevens and Clayton Donovan of Spearfish will face each other in the semi’s after both wrestlers got quarterfinal wins. Doney defeated Braden Temple of Sturgis, who heads to the wrestleback.

At 160 pounds, Riley Benson of Stevens heads to the semifinals with a win over Jayden Wiebe of Pierre. Landin Winter of RC Central is also headed to the semifinals with a win over Soren Aadland of Harrisburg. Preston Ray of Sturgis, who lost his opening match, lost his wrestleback.

At 170 pounds, Reese Jacobs, a favorite to win the championship, is one step away to getting to that match with a pin over Chet Carda of West Central.

At 182 pounds, Tanner VanScoy lost his quarterfinal and heads to the wrestleback.

At 195 pounds, Aiden Werlilnger of Sturgis is headed to the semifinals with a pin over Jase Langbehn of Lennox.

At 220 pounds, Zac Juelfs of Sturgis lost his quarterfinal match to Owen Warren of Brandon Valley. Juelfs heads to the wrestleback.

At 285 pounds, after losing his opening match, Dekarai Osborne defeated Kane Wirkus of RC Central in his first wrestleback and advances to a second wrestleback.

In the team standings as of Thursday night, Brandon Valley is first with 111.5 and Pierre is second with 88.5 points. Rapid City Stevens sits in third with 81 and Watertown is fourth with 76.5. The Scoopers are in 6th with 72 points; four points behind Harrisburg in fifth.
