Sturgis holds informational meeting on proposed Lakeside Adventure Park Tuesday night

STURGIS, S.D. – City officials and members of the Sturgis Aquatic Committee held an informal get together Tuesday night at the Sturgis Community Center to gather input on the proposed Sturgis Lakeside Adventure Park.

The group has been raising funds to help build the facility – possibly on property purchased by the city southwest of town.

Officials recently announced they had raised just under $400,000 to go towards the approximate $6 million dollar project. Sturgis Aquatic Committee spokeswoman Allison Creed says that includes a $109,000 donation by an anonymous donor announced this month.

Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says they’ve discussed more than 25 different types of attractions, everything from ziplines to inflatable obstacle courses. He says the public meetings will be used to rank those attractions so the City Council can see overall what the majority of people are wanting.

But the proposed water park is not the only planned development. Kyle Truloar from Bear Butte Land Company was on hand to discuss homes, townhouses and even retail space proposed for part of the 77 acre property.

Another informal, public meeting will be held October 4th.
