STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis staff gathered Tuesday morning for the annual Legislative Breakfast.

The event is an opportunity for city staff to share information with Legislators, the state’s Congressional delegation and representatives of the Municipal League on issues of importance to the city.

Among those speaking was Sturgis Police Department Patrolman Jerred Hegstrom who encouraged state oversight of advertising of cannabis, alcohol and tobacco products which can be targeted at youth.

Sturgis City Manager Daniel Ainslie says they heard from the city’s Ambulance Department, who discussed E.M.T. retirement and shortages.

Also discussed were airport matters, the Rally and its impact on the state, plus allowing municipalities to join the state’s healthcare pool.

Legislative leaders serving the Sturgis area for District 29 include Dean Wink, Kirk  Chaffee and Gary Cammack. The 2023 Legislative Session begins the second week of January.
