Tuesday’s COVID-19 update shows 429 new cases with six new deaths
PIERRE, S.D. – The Tuesday COVID-19 update from the state Department of Health indicated 429 new cases with 152 of those considered as probable.
According to Secretary of Health Kim Malsam-Rysdon, the Tuesday update this week reflects case numbers from Thursday at 1 p.m. through Friday at 1 p.m. from last week. The Wednesday update will include Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Active cases are at 6,539 Tuesday and there are 202 people hospitalized due to the virus.
Six new COVID-19 related deaths were reported, sending the state’s death toll to 2,177. Two of the new deaths were out of the Black Hills area with one from Pennington and one from Meade County. The other deaths were reported out of Jackson, Walworth, Hughes and Brown counties.
Across the Black Hills area, Pennington County reported 67 new cases, of which, 17 were considered as probable.
Meade County had the second most with 30 new cases, of which, 11 were probable.
Lawrence County added 12 new cases and Butte County added five.
Elsewhere, Custer reported 9 new cases, Fall River County listed 4, Oglala Lakota County had 3 and one new probable cases was reported out of Harding County.
The state’s vaccination rate has also inched up a bit.
As of Tuesday, 64.83% of the population 12-years-old and above has received at least one dose while 59.19% have completed the vaccination series.
