Winners crowned as 2021 South Dakota Track and Field season ends with State AA, A and B meets Saturday

UNDATED – The 2021 South Dakota Track and Field season wrapped up Saturday as the remainder of the State AA, A and B meets finished up.

At the State AA meet in Sturgis, several area athletes brought home first place medals.

In the boys’ 1,600 meter run, Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens won first place with Keenan Uridales of Spearfish coming in second. Birnbaum also won the 800 meters, with Uridales also finishing in second place.

In the boys’ 1,600 sprint medley, the Sturgis Scoopers won the event for the third year in a row. The four runners, Trevor Christman, Jared Sailer, Ridge Inhofer and Traeton Monahan, finished in a time of 3:34.81.

In the girls’ 1,600 sprint medley, Rapid City Stevens won first place with Abbie Noga, Carsyn Mettler, Jayda McNabb and Hailey Uhre finishing in a time of 4:14.19.

In other highlights from Class AA, Rapid City Central captured third place in the boys’ 4×100 meters, and the Stevens girls’ finished in fourth in the 4×100.

Tanner Lunders of Stevens came in third in the 300-meter hurdles, Jaden Guthmiller of Spearfish came in third in the boys’ 200 meter dash, Liam Porter of Central got second in the boys’ shot put and Jason Maciejczak of Douglas got third.

In the team standings, Brandon Valley won the girls title with O’Gorman second, Lincoln third and Rapid City Stevens fourth. Lincoln won the boys title with Roosevelt second, Stevens third, and Brandon Valley fourth.

At the Class A Meet in Spearfish, Jade Ecoffey of Red Cloud captured the first place medal in the girls’ 1,600 meters. Ecoffey finished in a time of 5:14.52.

Blake Boyster of Custer won the boys’ 400 meter dash with Cael Thorn of St Thomas More finishing in second.

In other highlights from Class A; Cody Farland of St Thomas More captured second place in the boys’ 1,600 meters as well as in the 800-meters; and a pair of Custer Wildcats came in 3rd and 4th in the girls’ 1,600 meter run. Kadense Colley finished in third and Ramsey Karim came in fourth.

The Custer boys’ finished in third in the 4×100 meter relay and Haleigh Timmer of St Thomas More came in second in the girls’ 400 meter dash.

Cael Thorn of St Thomas More placed third in the boys’ 200 meters and Timmer got fourth in the girls’ 200 meters.

St Thomas More also placed second behind Sioux Falls Christian in the boys’ 4×400 meter relay.

The Hill City girls got second in the 4×400 meter relay with Custer finishing in the third.

Gage Tennyson of Custer got third in the boys’ long jump and Kelleyn Kortemeyer of Custer was second in the girls’ shot put.

In the team standings, West Central came in first with Custer second, Mt. Vernon/Plankinton third and Sioux Falls Christian fourth. Hanson won the boys title with Viborg-Hurley second, Chester Area third and Langford Area fourth.

At the Class B meet in Rapid City; Bison’s Jonathan Burkhalter won the boys’ 100 meter dash. Cerington Jones of New Underwood captured the girls’ 400 meter dash. Morgan Peterson won the girls’ 300-meter hurdles.

Other highlights include New Underwood taking second place in the girls’ 4×100 meter relay, Burkhalter coming in third in the boys’ 800-meter run and Cerington Jones of New Underwood placing fourth in the girls’ long jump.

Colman-Egan won the girls team title with Dell Rapids St Mary’s second, Menno third and Burke fourth. Hanson won the boys team title with Viborg-Hurley second, Chester Area third and Langford Area fourth.
