NHSFR rodeo wraps up – Team SD finishes 9th

ROCK SPRINGS, WY – The National High School Finals Rodeo wrapped up on Saturday with the short-go and South Dakota was well represented this year.

Arina Haugen from Sturgis qualified for the finals in three different events and was named the All-Around Rookie Cowgirl.

In the team standings, South Dakota finished sixth in the boys standings with 3,215 points and the girls finished 13th with 1,580 points. Overall, South Dakota placed ninth with 4,795 points.

Here’s a look at how South Dakota cowboys and cowgirls fared in events:

Breakaway Roping

5th – Arina Haugen, Sturgis

11th – Kelsi Costello, Newell

Team Roping

5th – Rance Bowden and Sern Weishaar, Belle Fourche

Pole Bending

5th – Kade Odens, Scotland, SD

9th – Quinn Moon, Creighton

11th – Treyvan Talsma, Springfield

Boys Cutting

15th – Chase Brunsch, Pine Ridge
