RAPID CITY, S.D. – The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Department of Public Safetydecided to shut down I-90 Friday night due to deteriorating weather conditions. The closure became effective as of 11:00 p.m.
The closure is from the Wyoming State line to Chamberlain.
The DOT reminds drivers that trying to avoid the interstate closure by taking state highways and county roads will not find conditions any better. They may in fact be worse.
Freezing rain and drizzle had already made roads slippery Friday, especially in the Rapid City area. Roads were expected to get worse as the freezing rain and drizzle changed over to snow.
In Sturgis, public works also listed a no travel advisory in town overnight Friday and into Saturday.
