One business cited in alcohol compliance check

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — Nineteen out of 20 Pennington County businesses passed the alcohol compliance check.

According to officials, only one business, the Jolly Lane Greenhouse Garden Bar, was caught selling to an underage informant.

Authorities say the employee was issued a citation, as a reminder to businesses that selling alcohol to a minor is a class 2 misdemeanor punishable by 30 days in jail or a $500 fine.

A business’s first offense could be a one-thousand dollar fine with the price going up for a second offense. A third offense can result in the loss of a liquor or business license.
